Lesson 1: What is Hajj?

In this first lesson, we begin with the basics: What is Hajj and why is it important in Islam?

You will learn the true meaning of Hajj, how it connects to our faith, and why millions of Muslims from around the world travel to Makkah each year to perform it.

We will also explain who is required to perform Hajj, including the conditions such as being an adult, physically able, and having the financial means to go. Finally, you will discover how Hajj fits into the Five Pillars of Islam, which form the foundation of every Muslim’s life.

Lesson 1 What is Hajj
The Story Behind Hajj

Lesson 2: The Story Behind Hajj

In this lesson, we learn about the powerful story behind Hajj. It begins with Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his family, who showed deep faith and obedience to Allah. You will discover how Allah guided Prophet Ibrahim to build the Kaaba in Makkah, and how his actions became the foundation of Hajj.

We also explore the moment when Allah told Prophet Ibrahim to call people to Hajj. Even though there were no loudspeakers or crowds back then, his call reached people across generations, and Muslims still answer it today by saying “Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik.”

This lesson helps you understand why every part of Hajj is connected to their story, and how Hajj brings us closer to the same trust, patience, and love that Prophet Ibrahim and his family showed.

Lesson 3: Getting Ready (Ihram)

In this lesson, we learn about Ihram, which is the special state a person enters before starting Hajj. You will understand what Ihram clothing looks like and why it is worn. For men, it is two white unstitched pieces of cloth. For women, it is modest Islamic clothing without covering the face or hands.

You will also learn when and where to wear Ihram, which depends on the place called Miqat, and how to make the intention (niyyah) before beginning your journey. During this time, we start saying the special words:

“Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik” meaning “Here I am, O Allah, here I am.”

This lesson also explains what is not allowed while in Ihram, such as cutting hair or nails, using perfume, and arguing. Following these rules helps keep the heart and body pure during the sacred journey.

Getting Ready (Ihram)
Walking Around the Kaaba (Tawaf)

Lesson 4: Walking Around the Kaaba (Tawaf)

In this lesson, we learn about Tawaf, one of the most important acts during Hajj. Tawaf means walking in a circle around the Kaaba, which is the most sacred place in Islam. Every Muslim faces the Kaaba in prayer, and during Hajj, we walk around it as an act of worship and remembrance of Allah.

You will learn that Tawaf is done seven times, starting from the Black Stone, which is located at one corner of the Kaaba. As you walk, you can say short duas, dhikr, or simply reflect on Allah’s blessings. The walk should be done calmly and respectfully, without pushing others or raising voices.

This lesson will help you understand the spiritual meaning behind Tawaf and how to do it properly.

Lesson 5: Running Between Safa and Marwah (Sa’i)

In this lesson, we learn about Sa’i, which is the act of walking between the two small hills called Safa and Marwah. This important part of Hajj reminds us of the strong faith and courage of Hajar, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim. When she was left in the desert with her baby, Ismail, she ran between these two hills searching for water.

Allah loved her trust and struggle so much that He made her action a part of the Hajj. Today, every pilgrim walks between Safa and Marwah to follow her example. You will learn how to perform Sa’i properly, when to start, and how many times to walk.

Sa’i is done seven times in total, and while walking, we can say short duas or remember Allah in our hearts. This lesson helps you understand the meaning behind this beautiful part of the Hajj

Running Between Safa and Marwah (Sa’i)
Mina, Arafah, and Muzdalifah

Lesson 6: Mina, Arafah, and Muzdalifah

In this lesson, we explore three very important places during Hajj: Mina, Arafah, and Muzdalifah. Pilgrims travel to Mina where they stay in large tents with many other pilgrims. It is a time for rest and preparation.

The most important day of Hajj is the day spent at Arafah, where pilgrims stand together to pray, ask for forgiveness, and make dua. This day is very special because it is when Allah forgives many sins, and standing at Arafah is a key part of completing Hajj.

After sunset, pilgrims travel to Muzdalifah, where they sleep outside under the open sky. This night is peaceful and full of worship, as pilgrims make lots of dua and dhikr (remembrance of Allah).

This lesson teaches you what to do at each place and why these moments are the heart of Hajj.

Lesson 7: Eid Day and Throwing Stones

In this lesson, we learn about the important rituals on Eid Day during Hajj. Pilgrims throw small stones at the three pillars called the Jamarat, which represent Shaytan (the devil). This act shows that we reject evil and follow the path of Allah.

After throwing the stones, pilgrims sacrifice an animal, usually a sheep, as part of the Qurbani (sacrifice) to remember Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to obey Allah. Then, men either shave or cut their hair, which shows that their Ihram is ending.

Finally, pilgrims join the Eid prayer, celebrating the success of completing the main rituals of Hajj with joy and gratitude.

Tawaf al-Ifadah – Finishing the Hajj

Lesson 8: Tawaf al-Ifadah – Finishing the Hajj

In this lesson, we learn about Tawaf al-Ifadah, which is the final and important Tawaf of Hajj. After completing most of the rituals, pilgrims return to the Kaaba to walk around it seven times again as a sign of devotion and completion.

You will also learn about the special duas to say during this Tawaf and how to perform it with respect and focus. After Tawaf al-Ifadah, pilgrims prepare to leave Makkah, following the proper etiquettes and prayers.

This lesson also explains what to do after finishing Hajj, including how to keep the spirit of Hajj alive in daily life by following the teachings and staying close to Allah.

Lesson 9: Mistakes and Tips

In this lesson, we learn about common mistakes that pilgrims might make during Hajj and how to correct them to ensure your Hajj is accepted. Everyone makes mistakes, but knowing how to fix them is important.

You will also discover the Sunnahs, which are extra good deeds the Prophet Muhammad taught us to do during Hajj. These small actions bring extra reward and make your worship better.

Finally, this lesson teaches the importance of being kind, patient, and clean during the pilgrimage. Treating others with respect, staying calm in difficult moments, and keeping yourself clean shows respect for this holy journey.
